International Women’s Day is coming!!! That’s why Green Forest decided to make a survey on our students about their attitude to this Day. But at first, I’ll tell you some facts from the history of this holiday.
International Women’s Day is celebrated throughout the world on March 8 every year. It provides an opportunity to focus on and remember the struggle of women throughout the world. Its origin can be traced to 8th March, 1857 when women garment workers in New York demonstrated against working conditions.
In 1910, at Women’s Conference in Copenhagen, Clara Zetkin proposed the establishment of a global International Women’s Day. She called upon women everywhere to link their fight for equal rights with men, a fight to preserve international peace and in 1911 millions of women celebrated the first International Women’s Day.
Since then the significance of the event has grown and now it has a truly global character. In 1977 the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution inviting each country to proclaim a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. In many countries March 8 has become an occasion to review the progress women have made in their struggle for peace, equal rights and social progress and an opportunity to raise funds for disadvantaged women everywhere.
International Women’s Day is now an official holiday in Albania, Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cameroon, China, Cuba, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Mongolia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The tradition sees men congratulated their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues with flowers, sweets and small gifts.
These are a few words about this great holiday of women’s beauty and motherhood. Now let’s look on the results of our survey:)))))
So, 62% of questioned students were women and 38% - men.
To the question “What do you mean by 8 March?” – 66% answered “International Women’s Day”, 20 % - “Mother’s Holiday”, 12% - “Torture for Men”, 9% - “Day of Fight for Women’s Rights”, and only one man sees this great day like “ The Day of “saint” Clara Zetkin”!
To the question about postponing celebration of International Women’s Day till 10 March, almost all respondents answered that it is not actual (and I think so too).
“What shouldn’t you do on this Day?” – what a nice question!!! Especially for girls))) There were a lot of variants, and they were all mentioned in answers: to sleep a lot, to watch TV, go to work, to study, to get drunk, to think (yes, sometimes it is very difficult to think, I agree with this:). Also, girls should have mentioned about cooking and cleaning. It is far more better to do whatever you want to do!!!!!
There was one more interesting question : “What shouldn’t you tell on this Day?” . Students answered in different ways: “You could have fabricated something more interesting!!” – 20 %, “You should have called already in 5 a.m.!!” – 15%, “ Why didn’t you congratulate me early in the morning?” – Yes, why didn’t you? Ha:) - 33%. And other variant was “All possible variants” – last 42% of students.
And the last question was:” What should you tell?” – it was a very “pleasant” question for men, because the variants were: “ O, darling, this is the best broom I have ever had!” , “What a beautiful frying pan…”, “Thank you! It is better late, than never…”, “You have forgotten? That’s ok, I’ll figure something out by myself!” , and the variant that I like best of all – “ You are so sweet, I really need this stereo system for your car!” . But don’t worry, boys, our women are the best, and they have added their own variants, such as: “ I’m glad, that you are in my life!”, “ I love you!!”, “Thank you, I like this very much!!”))
That’s all about the results of survey. Now you can see what our students think about International Women’s Day! So make a holiday for your wonderful women everyday!!! Because we are the best!!!!!!!!!!!
