Should Porno be banned? To answer this question lets look at some facts and statistic.
In the study Porn was grouped into 3 categories:
1-Violent (where men are clearly violating women)
2-Domineering (where men are clearly dominating women)
3-Neutral (where no party is dominant)
(the vast majority of violent porn or porn depicting domination was male suppressing female, so keep that in mind for the results that females violating males is not a strong theme in porn at this time) The 2nd kind represented about 80% of randomly selected porn, with the other 2 representing about 10% each.
Male participants were asked a series of questions, and some of the questions had to do with attitudes toward women:
a) if a woman is raped, how much responsibility does she bear
b) is it ever ok to use physical force against a woman
etc, etc
The respondents were asked these questions BEFORE viewing any porn to establish a baseline. Then they were shown porn from one of the three categories. They were then asked a similar series of questions.
Without getting into the numbers, suffice it to say that the men who viewed violent porn were WAY more likely to condone violence against women shortly after viewing it. The men who were given porn with dominating themes were somewhat more likely to condone the use of physical force or violence toward females, and the men who were given the "neutral" porn had no measurable change.
The study, I do not believe, tested the duration of the effects, but I would assume that prolonged exposure leads to pronounced effects.
If this information is accurate, then porn ACTUALLY makes the world a statistically more dangerous place for women, LITERALLY.
Therefore, I have to say that, given the facts above (if they are indeed accurate) any porn that depicts women as being subjugated should be banned or controlled, at least until our response to that type of pornography is better understood. Our violent reactions may be culturally driven, but they are real, nevertheless.
Believe me, I hate to say it, but when my heart conflicts with the facts I have to go with the facts.
