-    Polly, you are grown-up already. Can you do the washing up, please? – says mum.

-    Polly, you are quite adult. Clean you room! – says mum.

-    Polly, you are five already! Eat your soup! – shouts mum.

“If I am a grown-up, why can’t I go to work?” – asked Polly herself.  I don’t want to be out of work.  I want to get salary!

-    Mummy, I don’t want to be unemployed. How can I apply for a job?  What do people do to get a job?

-    People buy a magic newspaper and find there a job. But you don’t have such newspaper because you are only five, - said her mum.

Polly got very upset first but then she decided to look for a magic newspaper and found it near the dustbin.

She wanted to be a boss, but in the newspaper she read that bosses pay salary to all other workers. “I don’t want to pay salary! I want to get salary!” – thought Polly and continued to read.  I can be an actress. They are beautiful and famous. But actresses usually have to get married many times. And I don’t know what to do with many husbands then. I’ll probably become a nurse. Father’s buddies always say they all like nurses very much. And nurses never get married in movies. There is only one problem – I hate hospitals.  For the same reason I will never be a doctor. Maybe I could be a journalist and interview famous people.  But unfortunately, I can’t write. That’s very pity, because if I can’t write I can’t be a scientist or a lawyer. But I still can work as a waiter or a farmer. “But you have to be skilled for this job, - said the newspaper. “Do you have any qualifications?”   “No, I don’t,” – but I also like the job of a hairdresser. It’s funny and not difficult.  Or probably I could be an accountant like my father or a shop assistant like my mother. “But you cannot count”, - replied the newspaper. 

I don’t have any qualifications and any experience, I’m not clever and I’m not educated. I’m absolutely unskilled.

The newspaper looked at Polly, thought for a while and said: “You have only two choices: to become a wife or a teacher. You don’t have to be skilled or clever or even experienced for this.” 

Polly decided to go to bed and to make a decision the next morning.
