-  But I love her, - cried Jack.

George stared at his 18-year old son, so obedient in his childhood and so insolent in his adolescence. OK, teenagers always create problems, but this foolish belief in eternal love…Of course, this stupid thing as well as fantasy and romance exist only in sci-fi books which come to his office for sale. George felt satisfaction that his head was free from madness: it couldn’t be otherwise for a president of Fantasy Inc, Ltd – the largest company selling fantasy literature of all genres.

-  Father, do you hear me? – Jack suddenly interrupted George’s thoughts.

-  Do I hear that you want to quit the most prestigious college in the country because you are going to marry? Most certainly.

But who arouse such serious feeling in his son? George started to think. Aha, his acquaintance…George recalled that three months earlier Jack had had a long talk with his mother confessing that he had started to date a wonderful girl and she had already become his steady girlfriend. George couldn’t waste his time listening to absurd romantic avowals, being sure that Jack would quickly split up with this girl as he was underage for responsible relationship.

But now the parent saw clearly that his boy had fallen in love seriously and even talked freely about marriage. Had he proposed to her? George had always thought that everything was under his control and it was very unpleasant to find out that he might have missed something – somebody – his son’s fiancée. 

-  Sonny, have you got engaged? – he asked.

-  Yes, we have.

-  Why do you hurry? Did she get pregnant? – another thing to worry about.

-  No, she didn’t.

Good news! His potential daughter-in-law won’t present a love-child. George took a deep breath.

-  So you are engaged to Lana… - he started – or Lilly, Lolla…

-  Dad, - Jack looked at his father with reproach, - her name is Lainie, it is like music for me…

-  Stop, - cried George.

He recalled everything. Of course, Lainie, a daughter of this odd sci-fi writer with an even stranger name - Dam. Once the editor cut down a chapter of his book with a detailed description of how to build a spaceship. Of course, the chapter was absurd, but Dam cried that everything was true. And then a very strange phrase came from his daughter, “Father, they are only humans…” A crazy family… 

-  Jack, do you remember how your future father-in-law cried that he had witnesses of his interplanetary flight - his triplets…

-  Kam, Pam and Tam? – Jack reminded to his father.

-  Yes, with these awkward names. And his wife… - George didn’t remember her name either.

-  Failie? Father, she is a common woman in her forties who brings up children. They just love to imagine…

-  No, Jack, – cried George suddenly, - I’ll never allow you to marry a girl from a mad family.

With these words he left the room.

Jack was running along the street. He didn’t care where to go and the only phrase in his mind was, “I love you, Lainie, and I will do anything in the world to be your loving husband despite all circumstances”.
